milestone
well, good people who read my blog (of which there are very few), i achieved a milestone this afternoon.
i successfully navigated the horrendous mess that is known as the "high five construction zone" on my motorcycle. this was not the first time that i had been on the freeway, that dubious honor goes to last weekend with fuzzy bunny, when we went on our cross town bar happin extravaganza. i got invited up to wiredmonkey's house for an afternoon of hanging by the pool and drinking some beer (which sounded like a wonderful way to spend a sunday evening), which i readily accepted. as i was getting ready to go, i figured that i would ride up there, since it was a gorgeous afternoon. now, taking back roads would have taken about an hour and a half, whereas taking the freeways would take about 1/2 that. now since it was already 2pm and i didn't want to waste a good portion of the afternoon riding up there, i decided that i had to get used to it and the only way to get used to it was to throw myself to the wolves. the only part that really got to me was the high connection from 75 to 635, since i have a slight fear of heights. but since i was riding, the elation the comes with riding the bike overpowered the fear of heights and i had a got through it just fine (except for the jackasses that don't notice motorcycles). you think that people in this town don't know how to drive when you're in a cage? try riding around on a bike, you'll notice things about drivers that you never noticed. the ride back through the high five was good, the sun was going down, the weather was not too hot, the drivers even seemed to get better (coulda been that there were less people on the road). either way, i got a decent amount of in town riding done this afternoon. which reminds me, i need to get out on some country roads again.
with all the problems, questions, issues, and (dare i say it?) shit that is going on in my head, the best thing for me is to get out there and ride. anything that i was thinking about gets left behind while i'm riding. there's nothing like the feel of the wind on your arms, the sounds, sights, and smells that come along with a good bike ride. when you're out on two wheels, nothing else seems to matter. it's just you, your bike, the road. can you ask for anything more? i know i can't.
